Playing Smooth Streaming videos

Video: VC-1 Audio: WmaPro (Multi Bit Rate)

When your video is encoded with Microsoft Expression Encoder you set the MediaSource to 'http://localhost/video.ism/manifest'.

Video: H.264 Audio: AAC or MP3 (Single Bit Rate)

When you have a single MP4 file then you set the MediaSource to 'http://localhost/video.ism/manifest?singlefile'. Note that the extension given in the link is '.ism'. The actual video file on disk will have the '.mp4' extension. The reason for the query parameter is to differentiate between a single bit rate and multi bit rate requests.

Note also that the Manifest file will be dynamically generated.

Video: H.264 Audio: AAC or MP3 (Multi Bit Rate)

When your video is encoded with open-source tools like X264 then you set the MediaSource to 'http://localhost/video.ism/manifest'. Make sure that you have generated the 'Manifest' file.

File/Directory? Structure

If you're Smooth Streaming Multiple Bit Rate MP4 files, the necessary files (Manifest and one '.ismv' file for each bit rate) must be located in a directory ending with the extension '.ism'.

./video.ism/Manifest
./video.ism/video_350000.ismv
./video.ism/video_600000.ismv
./video.ism/video_1050000.ismv
./video.ism/video_1450000.ismv
